September 8, 2022 Philippines Crime & Legal

Members of the Pasig City Police Station (CPS) arrested around 60 men for alleged illegal gambling during the 24-hour simultaneous operations from Sept. 6 to 7.

In the report submitted to Col. Celerino M. Sacro Jr., Pasig CPS chief, the operations began on Tuesday, Sept. 6 at 12:01 a.m., and lasted until 12:01 a.m. on Wednesday, Sept. 7.

The suspects were caught engaging in illegal gambling such as cara y cruz, tongits, mahjong, rotation billiards, and games using dice.

Police confiscated from the suspects gambling paraphernalia like dice, mahjong and billiards sets; and a total of P22,358 bet money.

The suspects were taken to the Rizal Medical Center (RMC) for medical examination before they were brought to the Pasig CPS for documentation.

The police are “preparing to file complaints before the City Prosecutor’s Office” for violation of Presidential Decree (PD) 1602 (anti-gambling law).

Col. Sacro assured the public of the Pasig Police’s continued drive against illegal gamblers in the city.

“Pasig CPS will not waver in our campaign against all forms of illegal gambling and criminality within the area of responsibility and we will keep on conducting similar police operations to put them behind bars towards a peaceful and progressive Pasig City,” he said.
