Police arrest alleged gambling operator with reported 5 million baht turnover
There’s been another gambling bust in the ‘Land of Smiles,’ this time in eastern Thailand. Police arrested an alleged gambling operator in the Aranyaprathet district of Sa Kaeo province on August 1. Police raided the suspect’s house and found hints that he was running a website called ‘syclub.bet.’ They found evidence of betting via electronic channels. The site reportedly had a turnover of about 5 million baht per month.
The man arrested, 37 year old Pae, admitted that he used to work on an online gambling website in Cambodia. Pae started working for syclub.bet after his friend recommended it to him. He reportedly ran an underground lottery system through Line applications, with a cash flow of about 5 million baht per month.
Police confiscated computer monitors, iPads, smartphones, book bank accounts, and a cash card. Pae was taken to the police station for further interrogation. He was initially charged with arranging illegal gambling and an underground lottery via online platforms.
