Macau’s long-time monopoly sports betting provider, Macau Slot Co Ltd, has announced a profit of MOP$127 million (US$15.7 million) in 2021, up 31.8% from the MOP$96.9 million (US$12.0 million) profit it reported in 2020.

According to figures published in the Official Gazette, the increase in profit followed a 15.6% rise in revenue for the year to MOP$629 million (US$77.8 million), up from MOP$544 million (US$67.3 million), with football generating MOP$415 million (US$51.3 million) and football MOP$214 million (US$26.5 million) in 2021.

Macau SLOT noted that, “In the past year, COVID-19 affected the whole world, but the Macau government implemented various measures to effectively stop the spread of the epidemic.

“Looking ahead, we [plan to] upgrade our information technology facilities to meet the needs of our customers.”

Macau SLOT’s improved results come after the company had its concession renewed last year for three years until 5 June 2024, albeit with the loss of its long-held exclusive license.

The company was granted Macau’s only franchise to accept betting on football in 1998, adding basketball two years later. In 2002, when the Macau SAR Government was handing out concessions to casino operators, Macau Slot became the holder of Macau’s only sports betting concession – a concession it has held until today.
