Macau gambling revenue drops to $459 million in March
The Macau Gaming Inspection and Coordination Bureau (DICJ) has prepared a monthly report on the performance of gambling market operators.
Macau known worldwide as the “Gambling Capital of the World”. The legalization of gambling in the region occurred in 1850. It should be noted that Macau does not license online casinos.
The income of gambling market operators in March this year amounted to $459 million. This is 54% lower than it was set in February, and 86% lower compared to the same period in 2021.
The reason for a noticeable decline in income was the introduction of restrictions due to the aggravated situation with the pandemic in the region . The number of tourists in Macau has declined markedly. In addition, land-based casinos have begun to accept fewer visitors to comply with social distancing measures. As a result, in the first two weeks of March 2022 alone, attendance at gambling establishments decreased by 23% compared to the same period in February.
