Portugal: Government approves exceptional measures for gaming concessions

Portugal’s cabinet on Thursday approved the exceptional measures for gaming in the Algarve, Espinho, Estoril, Figueira da Foz and Póvoa do Varzim, and an additional period may be granted for the duration of concession contracts.

“The decree-law that establishes the exceptional and temporary measures applicable to the gambling in the Algarve, Espinho, Estoril, Figueira da Foz and Póvoa do Varzim has been approved,” the cabinet statement said.

According to the document, considering the impact of the restrictions imposed to control the Covid-19 pandemic, an additional period may be granted for the validity of concession contracts in the areas in question.

The government hopes these measures “help restore the concessionaires’ financial balance.
