The 2020 China E-sports Industry Research Report points out that China’s e-sports users are expected to reach 500 million in 2021, and the scale will exceed 165 billion RMB.

As early as 2017, Wuhan hosted the finalists and group stages of the League of Legends S7 Global Finals.

In 2021, a China Optics Valley e-sports industry base project is also announced. It is planned to cut into a comprehensive e-sports venue, e-sports theme hotel and related e-sports industry supporting facilities in the Donghu New Technology Development Zone of Wuhan Optics Valley. The amount is about 3 billion yuan. The just-concluded LPL Spring Finals was held in Optics Valley.
