Macau’s Casino Lockdown Catches 500 People as Covid Flares
City has already closed bars to cinemas to tame record flareup
SJM Holdings shares drop as broader casino gauge extends loss
Macau locked down SJM Holdings Ltd.’s Grand Lisboa, trapping 500 people inside, as the city’s worst Covid-19 outbreak led to the closure of a flagship gaming venue for the first time in more than two years.
The shutdown started Tuesday and is expected to last until July 11. It comes after authorities in the world’s biggest gambling hub found 13 infections linked to the resort. Officials also locked down three floors of the ‘Shoppes at Four Seasons,’ a shopping center at Sands China Ltd.’s Plaza Macao, after another cluster was found there. The rest of the resort remains open for now.
